A three-year-old Indian child has made global chess history by becoming the youngest player ever to enter the International Chess Federation (FIDE) ratings list.
Saruagya Singh Kushwaha — aged three years, seven months and twenty days — surpassed the previous record set by fellow Indian Anish Sarkar, who joined the rankings last November at three years, eight months and nineteen days.
Widely described as a chess prodigy, Kushwaha, a kindergarten student from Madhya Pradesh, achieved a rapid-chess rating of 1,572, according to FIDE’s official website, the Irish Times reports.
To be assigned a FIDE rating, a player must secure at least one result against a rated opponent. The rating reflects a player’s performance strength but does not constitute an official world ranking.
For comparison, world number one Magnus Carlsen currently tops the global rapid-chess list with 2,824 points.
