Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia are reeling from relentless rains, with entire communities cut off and desperate for aid.

Indonesia has borne the heaviest toll, with at least 442 lives lost and 402 still missing. Sumatra, the island worst affected, remains partly inaccessible, with isolated cities like Tapanuli Central and Sibolga awaiting much-needed assistance.

Naval vessels have been dispatched from Jakarta, carrying relief and hospital support, as villagers and rescuers continue the grim task of searching for the missing.

In Sri Lanka, Cyclone Ditwah’s aftermath has claimed 340 lives, with around 400 more unaccounted for.

Flooded streets and submerged homes have affected over one million people. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has declared a state of emergency, mobilizing the military to coordinate relief efforts amid growing despair.

Thailand mourns at least 176 deaths, one of the deadliest floods in a decade, with tens of thousands displaced and damage widespread.

Criticism of the response has added to the anguish of affected communities. Malaysia reported two fatalities in its northern state of Perlis, adding to the mounting toll.

Scientists warn that climate change is intensifying storms, increasing rainfall, and raising the risk of catastrophic floods across the region.
