Govt cracks down on institutions for failing to take over new buildings

As part of its broader agenda to boost the efficiency of public administration and ensure the proper use of state assets, the Cabinet is moving forward with decisive measures to address persistent gaps in the handover of newly completed government buildings — a step aimed at reinforcing institutional discipline and protecting public funds.
According to informed sources, the Cabinet has instructed the Joint Ministerial Committee for Legal Affairs and Public Services to compile a full inventory of all government facilities that have not yet been received by the institutions for which they were constructed.
The committee will look into the causes of both delays and refusals to take possession, with accountability measures to follow where necessary.
The mandate also calls for expanding the committee’s participation to include representatives from key oversight entities such as the Central Agency for Public Tenders and the Fatwa and Legislation Department.
This is intended to ensure that the review process is both accurate and comprehensive.
Sources told Al-Rai that ministries and other concerned bodies are now preparing extensive reports detailing which entities have been late in taking over their assigned buildings, the exact locations and current conditions of these facilities, and the reasons behind any delay or refusal.
The committee is required to submit a full report to the Cabinet within two months — by mid-January — outlining its findings and recommendations, in preparation for the government to take the necessary corrective actions.
