Justice Ministry unveils new child protection guide

The Ministry of Justice announced that the Attorney General’s approval of a new guide on handling children within the criminal justice process marks a significant step toward enhancing the protection of children’s rights in accordance with internationally recognized legal and humanitarian standards.

The ministry explained that the guide is built on the principle of prioritizing the best interests of the child at every stage of investigation.

It outlines essential safeguards tailored to the child’s psychological and cognitive needs, ensures the confidentiality of investigation sessions, allows the presence of a guardian, and guarantees access to both legal and psychological support, reports Al-Jarida daily.

It also calls for shortening investigation periods to suit the child’s age and wellbeing.

According to the ministry, the issuance of this guide aligns with Kuwait’s commitments under international conventions on children’s rights and reflects the state’s dedication to developing criminal justice procedures in a way that protects the most vulnerable groups.

The Ministry of Justice concluded by affirming that the guide will help foster a safer and more supportive judicial environment for children, reinforcing Kuwait’s broader efforts to safeguard human rights and strengthen justice across society.
