The UN Security Council is scheduled to vote on Monday on a U.S. draft resolution endorsing President Donald Trump’s proposed plan for peace in Gaza, diplomatic sources confirmed on Friday.
According to copies of the text seen by AFP, the draft — which has undergone several revisions — calls for the establishment of a transitional governing body for Gaza, referred to as a “peace council.” The council would be granted a mandate through December 2027 and would, in principle, be headed by President Trump.
The proposal also authorizes the deployment of a “temporary international stabilization force” in the Gaza Strip, aimed at supporting governance and maintaining security during the transition period.
The upcoming vote is expected to draw significant international attention, given the sensitivity and far-reaching implications of the proposed political and security arrangements for the territory.
