Education Ministry steps up rainy season preparations to ensure school safety

To ensure students safety, the Ministry of Education has begun taking precautionary measures across all government schools ahead of the rainy season, with a special focus on preventing water accumulation.

Among the key steps implemented are cleaning school roofs, clearing manholes to ensure smooth water flow, and removing debris, weeds, and waste that could obstruct drainage networks or cause water pooling.

An engineering source told Al-Rai that coordination is ongoing between the General Administration of Educational Facilities and Projects and the Education Affairs Sector to monitor school conditions. The teams are conducting field inspections to assess structural integrity and confirm that all preventive measures are being properly implemented.

The source noted that one of the Ministry’s most important annual tasks during this period is requiring schools to clean rainwater drainage manholes and install metal mesh screens under their covers to prevent blockages. Schools have also been instructed to remove or cover furniture and electrical appliances in areas prone to leaks, while adhering to all safety and security protocols.

The source added that a roof insulation repair plan is currently being carried out as part of the Ministry’s summer maintenance program, though only a limited number of schools are included due to the complexity of the work. The process involves removing air conditioning units from rooftops, installing new insulation across all facilities, and then reinstalling the units in their original positions.

These efforts, the source emphasized, aim to safeguard students, teachers, and administrative staff and ensure that all educational facilities remain safe and fully operational throughout the rainy season.
