Interior Ministry arrests man for spreading misleading video on social media

As part of its ongoing efforts to monitor online content and counter misinformation, the Ministry of Interior announced that the Criminal Security Sector of the Capital Governorate Investigations Department, has arrested an unidentified person for posting a misleading video on social media.

The video showed a woman attempting to open the door of another person’s vehicle in one of the areas in the Capital Governorate. Following the circulation of the video, the Rawdah Investigations Department immediately launched an inquiry and after the vehicle’s driver was summoned, and he confirmed that the incident had occurred but did not know the woman, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Subsequent investigations and a review of nearby surveillance footage revealed that the woman mistakenly tried to enter the wrong vehicle, believing it belonged to one of her acquaintances.

The authorities also identified the individual who later arrived and picked her up from the scene.

It was later determined that the publisher of the video had shared it online with false claims, misleading viewers and failing to report the incident to authorities, allegedly seeking personal publicity and increased social media views. The suspect was arrested, and legal measures were taken, with the case referred to the competent authority.

The Ministry of Interior urged the public to report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior directly to authorities instead of posting or circulating such content online.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of accuracy and verification before sharing any information or videos, warning that spreading unverified content constitutes a legal violation punishable under the law.
