His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah, accompanied by several ministers, conducted an inspection tour on Tuesday of the new Kuwait Cancer Control Center project located in the Sabah Health District. The visit took place on the sidelines of the weekly Cabinet meeting, which was held at the project site.
During the tour, the Prime Minister and accompanying ministers were briefed by Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, Acting Undersecretary Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, and Assistant Undersecretary for Engineering Affairs Ibrahim Al-Naham, along with senior ministry officials, who provided a detailed explanation of the project’s design, facilities, and objectives.
In a statement to KUNA following the visit, Minister Al-Awadhi emphasized that the new Kuwait Cancer Control Center marks a major milestone in cancer patient care in the region. He described the project as part of the Ministry of Health’s broader strategy to develop specialized medical services in accordance with the highest international standards, providing advanced healthcare solutions locally without the need for patients to seek treatment abroad.
Minister Al-Awadhi explained that the center has been designed as a comprehensive medical facility that offers a full range of services in oncology, hematology, specialized cancer surgery, radiation therapy, and social support. The project strengthens Kuwait’s healthcare system by integrating modern technology with patient-centered care across multiple specialties.
The new center will feature 618 beds, housed within two medical towers, supported by a central services building and a parking structure accommodating approximately 1,950 vehicles. It includes state-of-the-art operating rooms, intensive care units, and dedicated suites for oncology, radiotherapy, and physiotherapy, ensuring that all aspects of cancer care are delivered under one roof.
Al-Awadhi noted that the design of the facility adheres to global standards in the management and operation of specialized healthcare centers. It will be equipped with advanced medical technology, including linear accelerators, CT and MRI simulators, and fully equipped radiology and nuclear medicine departments, in addition to central laboratories and a pharmacy.
He further stated that the project aligns with the Ministry of Health’s vision to modernize medical infrastructure and expand hospital capacity in line with the National Development Plan and New Kuwait 2035 vision.
The center, he said, will serve as a model institution combining medical, scientific, and research excellence in oncology. Minister Al-Awadhi reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing healthcare services and expressed pride in the contribution of national cadres to the implementation of this vital and transformative project.
