The Israeli Broadcasting Authority announced that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) informed Israel of the receipt of seven Israeli prisoners in Gaza today, marking the start of the first phase of the “Gaza Agreement” aimed at implementing a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
This development comes shortly after Hamas’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, released a list of 20 Israeli prisoners scheduled to be freed under the prisoner exchange deal. The exchange is part of the broader ceasefire agreement reached following intensive international mediation and diplomatic efforts.
According to Hamas, the 20 individuals are among 48 hostages — both living and deceased — who have been held by Palestinian factions in Gaza since the October 7, 2023 attacks.
The prisoner handover, supervised by the ICRC, represents a significant step toward enforcing the Gaza ceasefire, which aims to end more than two years of conflict and pave the way for humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts across the devastated Strip.
