Kuwait has set a world record by performing the longest transcontinental robotic surgery, spanning 12,034.92 kilometers between Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital in Kuwait and Cruz Vermelha Hospital in Brazil, as reported by Al Jarida newspaper.
The achievement was announced Thursday in a joint press release by the Ministry of Health, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), and Zain Group. This milestone was made possible through a strategic partnership among the three organizations, highlighting Kuwait’s growing leadership in medical innovation and advanced healthcare technology.
The Ministry of Health announced that minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi, the surgical team, and representatives from Zain and the Scientific Progress Company received the official certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records during a press conference celebrating the achievement.
The record-setting procedure was carried out by a surgical team from Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, led by Dr. Sulaiman Al-Muzaidi, Dr. Muhannad Al-Haddad, and Dr. Hamoud Al-Rashidi, in collaboration with Brazilian doctors, including Dr. Marcelo Loureiro and Dr. Leandro Totti Cavazola.
Health Minister Dr. Al-Awadhi highlighted that Kuwait’s entry into the Guinness Book of Records for this historic medical and technological accomplishment represents more than a world record—it signals the national healthcare system’s potential for global leadership.
He stated, “Our medical cadres have proven that when willpower combines with science and technology, geographical barriers can be overcome, positioning Kuwait as a global hub for medical innovation.” He attributed this success to the continuous support and directives of the country’s wise political leadership.
Dr. Amina Farhan, Director General of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, emphasized that the achievement showcases the power of innovation when paired with national medical expertise and advanced communications infrastructure. She noted that investing in science and technology directly benefits human health, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to the leadership’s vision.
