Kuwait sports authority confirms action on membership of individuals stripped of citizenship

The Public Authority for Sports has issued instructions to all sports organizations to implement measures concerning individuals affected by Amiri decrees that withdraw, revoke, or cancel their Kuwaiti citizenship. This includes the annulment of their membership in general assemblies and boards of directors.

In a circular sent to sports bodies, Deputy Director-General for Competitive Sports Bashar Abdullah explained that the move is part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation among all sports organizations and ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and governance standards. He emphasized that the measures are in line with several recent Amiri decrees concerning citizenship revocation.

Bashar Abdullah highlighted that the bylaws of the Sports Authority explicitly require Kuwaiti nationality as a fundamental condition for membership in both the General Assembly and boards of directors.

Sports organizations have been asked to report back on the steps taken to implement these provisions and ensure compliance with the Authority’s regulations.

The directive underscores the Authority’s commitment to maintaining legal and administrative integrity within Kuwait’s sports sector while safeguarding the governance framework of all affiliated bodies.
