Shooting at ICE facility in Dallas leaves two dead, one injured

ICE, a federal agency responsible for enforcing immigration laws, has frequently been at the center of political controversy. During President Donald Trump’s second term, the agency was authorized to conduct high-profile raids targeting undocumented migrants in sensitive areas such as churches and schools.

US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed on Wednesday that a shooting that occurred at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas left two people dead and one was injured.

Joseph Rothrock, special agent-in-charge of the FBI’s Dallas field office, described the incident as “an act of targeted violence.”

Speaking at a press briefing, Rothrock said that early evidence suggested the shooter had left behind messages expressing hostility toward ICE.

The dw.com, quoting DHS said, the gunman opened fire “indiscriminately” from a nearby rooftop toward the ICE building before taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Secretary Noem later confirmed the shooter’s death in a post on X.

Emergency vehicles flooded the scene as local and federal law enforcement secured the area. The FBI has not released details about the victims, though Rothrock noted that no law enforcement officers were among the casualties.

US Vice President JD Vance condemned the attack, writing on X that the “obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop,” and offered prayers for the victims and their families.

ICE, a federal agency responsible for enforcing immigration laws, has frequently been at the center of political controversy. During President Donald Trump’s second term, the agency was authorized to conduct high-profile raids targeting undocumented migrants in sensitive areas such as churches and schools.

These actions, including the unlawful deportation of Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia, have drawn sharp criticism from Democrats and immigrant rights advocates.

The Dallas attack follows a similar incident in July, when an assailant targeted another immigration detention facility in Texas, leaving a police officer injured. Federal officials have since warned of increasing threats against ICE and other immigration enforcement agencies.

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence to determine the motive behind Wednesday’s shooting, though officials emphasized that the attack appeared to be directed specifically at the agency.
