Drones force brief shutdown of Copenhagen airport, 35 flights diverted

Copenhagen Airport briefly shut down on Monday evening after multiple drones were spotted near the runways, causing around 35 flights to be diverted, according to authorities in Denmark.

The airport’s official X account confirmed operations were halted due to “activity” in the airspace. Flights resumed a few hours later, but delays and cancellations persisted.

Northern Europe’s security alert remains high following recent Russian sabotage operations and multiple drone and fighter jet incursions into NATO airspace, the news agencies reports.

Copenhagen police earlier warned that 2–3 large drones were flying in the area, prompting a temporary closure for take-offs and landings.

Danish police believe the incident involved a “capable operator,” capable of controlling multiple drones simultaneously. Chief Superintendent Jens Jespersen told reporters the drones approached from different directions, with lights switching on and off, before disappearing after several hours.

The disruption coincided with a drone incident at Oslo Airport in Norway, where all traffic was temporarily restricted to a single runway, according to broadcaster NRK.
