Death penalty sought for husband accused of killing wife on Eid al-Fitr

Public Prosecutor Hessa Ibrahim Al-Hamoud stated that the accused violated the bond by committing a brutal crime that ended his wife’s life on a day meant for joy.

  • The accused allegedly lured his wife to a remote desert under the pretense of a surprise, beat her severely, and ran her over multiple times, later confessing that he had planned the crime and ensured her death.

A tragic scene unfolded in the Criminal Court today during the Public Prosecution’s pleading session in the case of a wife allegedly murdered by her husband on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, Al Rai newspaper reported.
Public Prosecutor Hessa Ibrahim Al-Hamoud began by emphasizing the sanctity of the marriage contract, describing it as a sacred covenant ordained by God, in which spouses are commanded to treat each other with care. She stated that the accused violated this bond by committing a brutal crime that ended his wife’s life on a day meant for joy.

Al-Hamoud detailed the crime, explaining that the accused lured his wife to a remote desert location under the pretense of a surprise, then beat her severely until she bled. When she attempted to escape, he reportedly ran her over multiple times, leaving her lifeless in the desert. During investigations, the accused allegedly confessed to planning the crime from morning, carefully choosing the location and returning over her body to ensure she was dead.

The prosecution presented testimony from three witnesses. The victim’s brother said he received a call from the defendant’s brother revealing their location, after which the accused reportedly admitted, “I killed her,” laughing and claiming he had returned her to her father’s house. The victim’s sister confirmed she had accompanied her husband believing in a “surprise,” only to discover the horrific truth.

Al-Hamoud also referenced the accused’s criminal record, describing a history of felonies and misdemeanors culminating in the alleged murder and the emotional devastation of the victim’s four children.
The Public Prosecution requested the death penalty, citing premeditated murder, kidnapping, and public indecency as defined in Articles 180 and 149 of the Penal Code. Lawyer Abdul Mohsen Al-Qattan also represented the victim’s heirs, supporting these claims.

The session was marked by emotion and was postponed until the end of the session for the court’s ruling.
