Arabian Gulf Street gets a new look with heritage-inspired lighting
1,500 lampposts transform the Gulf Street into a cultural landmark with new decorative LED lighting

The Arabian Gulf Street has taken on a dazzling new look, adorned with modern, colorful lampposts that reflect Kuwait’s cultural and coastal identity.
Stretching from Al-Taawun Street (Al-Balajat) to the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation building, the street has been transformed into a vibrant landmark through the replacement of 1,500 traditional lampposts with energy-saving LED decorative poles, reports Al-Rai daily.
The Street Lighting Department credited the success of the project to the efforts of national cadres, who carefully designed the poles to embody Kuwait’s cultural heritage.
Engineer Ayman Al-Omani, Director of the department, explained that three distinct models were introduced — marine, engineering, and heritage — each tailored to the unique character of the coastal strip and its urban surroundings.
The new lighting not only reduces energy consumption by 50–60% but also adds an artistic and environmentally friendly dimension to one of Kuwait’s most iconic roads.
Al-Omani emphasized that the project was implemented with the highest safety standards, in coordination with multiple state agencies, ensuring both efficiency and the protection of road users.
He further noted that this initiative is part of a wider five-year plan to replace Kuwait’s entire lighting network with eco-friendly LED systems, alongside expanding decorative lighting projects in new residential cities such as Al-Mutlaa, West Abdullah Al-Mubarak, and South Sabah Al-Ahmad.
Al-Omani highlighted the collaborative approach adopted by the Ministry of Electricity and Water, combining private sector expertise with government supervision, while also affirming the department’s commitment to Kuwaitization by empowering young national engineers through advanced training programs.
