24 people stripped of Kuwaiti nationality for holding dual citizenship

An official supplement of the official gazette, the Kuwait Al-Youm, has published a decision issued by the Supreme Committee for Nationality Investigation saying the Kuwaiti citizenship of 24 persons has been revoked for holding simultaneously the nationality of another country.

The decision was issued under Article 11 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959 on Kuwaiti Nationality, which stipulates that “a Kuwaiti loses citizenship if he voluntarily acquires a foreign nationality.”

By enforcing this provision, the committee confirmed that the affected individuals were found to have obtained another nationality, thereby forfeiting their Kuwaiti citizenship in accordance with the law.

This latest decision underscores Kuwait’s firm stance on prohibiting dual nationality and its continued implementation of the legal framework regulating citizenship status.
