‘Flavor of Early Autumn’, month-long celebration of Chinese cuisine in Kuwait

"Flavor of Early Autumn" is a month-long celebration of Chinese cuisine in Kuwait, likely coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival. This festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, is a traditional Chinese celebration emphasizing family reunions, appreciation of the moon, and, notably, the enjoyment of mooncakes and other seasonal foods. The event in Kuwait would likely feature special menus, promotions, and activities centered around traditional Mid-Autumn Festival dishes and customs

The Chinese Cultural Center in Kuwait inaugurated its ‘Chinese Food Culture Month’ with a special event held under the theme “The Flavor of Early Autumn… A Banquet from China.”

The opening ceremony, held Monday evening, drew a large audience of Kuwaiti citizens and members of the Chinese community. Attendees explored the cultural significance and traditions surrounding the famous Chinese dumpling dish, jiaozi, while learning about its history and role in Chinese society.

Organizers highlighted the origins of the dish and traced its journey along the Silk Road, where it spread westward before becoming one of the world’s most beloved foods. In a spirit of cultural exchange, several Kuwaitis fluent in Chinese also shared their experiences, comparing Chinese dumplings to local favorites such as ‘majboos’ and biryani.

This event marked the first activity of “Chinese Culture Month”, a series of programs designed to use the flavors of China as a bridge for cultural communication and deeper understanding between the Chinese and Kuwaiti peoples. The Cultural Center announced that additional activities will continue throughout August, reinforcing dialogue and cultural ties between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters, Liu Jinhong, Director of the Chinese Cultural Center, said: “Chinese food is very popular around the world. Many people love it, which is why the month of August has been dedicated to celebrating Chinese cuisine. Food is closely tied to culture, and we consider it a bridge of communication between China and the rest of the world. This festival reflects that spirit and introduces people to Chinese culture on a deeper level.”
