Egyptian Mo Salah named PFA Player of the Year for record third time

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been crowned the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year, becoming the first player in history to win the prestigious award three times.

The 33-year-old Egyptian forward, who joined Liverpool in 2017, enjoyed a stellar season, finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals and providing 18 assists. His contributions were pivotal in securing the league title for Liverpool, who finished 10 points clear of Arsenal.

Salah’s dominance was further underlined as he claimed the Premier League Player of the Season award, the Golden Boot, and the Playmaker award — making him the first player ever to collect all three accolades in a single campaign.

He previously won the PFA award in 2018 and 2022, and this year he topped a six-man shortlist voted for by professional players across England’s 92 Premier League and Football League clubs. The list also included teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

Salah, who ended speculation about a move to the Saudi Pro League by signing a two-year contract extension with Liverpool in April, continues to cement his legacy as one of the Premier League’s greatest forwards.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named Young Player of the Year after scoring eight league goals and netting four in the Champions League, including a hat-trick against Celtic.

In women’s football, Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey claimed the Women’s Player of the Year award. The Spanish midfielder scored nine league goals in her debut season and eight in the Champions League, helping Arsenal defeat her former club Barcelona to win the trophy.
