Shagaya Z transformer tender moves to Public-Private Partnership Authority

The Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) recently canceled the request of the Ministry of Electricity and Water’s to supply and install the main Shagaya Z transformer station, part of Kuwait’s renewable energy initiative, citing Article 55 of the Tenders Law.
Informed sources told Al-Rai daily, that the tender will now be issued through the Public-Private Partnership Projects Authority, which is responsible for overseeing the Shagaya Renewable Energy Project – Phase III. This aligns with the approach used for the first and second projects, which together have a capacity of 1,600 megawatts.
Officials explained that having the Partnership Authority manage the tender ensures that implementation is synchronized with the timelines of the first two phases. The Shagaya Z station will transfer electricity generated by the project and connect it to the national grid, reinforcing Kuwait’s renewable energy infrastructure.
In a related update, a technical source at the Ministry of Electricity and Water reported that Kuwait’s water production exceeded consumption by approximately 22 million gallons, with production reaching 523 million gallons and consumption at 501 million gallons.
The source reassured the public about the strategic water reserve, which currently holds 4,131 million gallons, describing it as being in excellent condition.
