Two dead in France linked to recalled cheese

Two people have died and at least 19 others have been infected with listeria, a foodborne infection, in France.

The French Ministry of Agriculture said in a press release that authorities are investigating a “possible connection” between the illnesses and deaths and the consumption of cheese that had been previously recalled.

The ministry explained that the infections may be linked to the consumption of soft cheeses such as camembert and chèvre produced by a French company, noting that several cheese products from the company have been withdrawn from the market.

The health authorities have specifically urged pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems to pay attention to symptoms such as fever, headache, and muscle pain, stressing that listeria can develop seriously and that the incubation period can extend up to eight weeks, writes France Info.
