Insulting Amir: Al-Mutair case referred to Chief Justice to assign new panel

The Criminal Court has referred the case of former Member of Parliament Mohammed Al-Mutair, who is accused of insulting the Amir during a public seminar, to the Chief Justice to assign a new judicial panel.

The referral came after Al-Mutair’s lawyer filed a third request to recuse the presiding judges, this time targeting the panel led by Counselor Abdullah Al-Asimi, reports Al-Rai daily.

This is the third such request in the same case. Al-Mutair had previously filed recusal motions against two earlier panels, headed respectively by Counselor Ahmed Al-Sadi and Counselor Hamoud Al-Shami. Both panels also referred the matter to the Chief Justice for reassignment.

In addition to this ongoing case, Al-Mutair faces a separate charge of insulting the Amir, which was brought before the Court of Appeal. In that instance, he was acquitted by the Court of First Instance.

The Public Prosecution is pursuing the charges based on a complaint submitted by a citizen and passed through the Ministry of Interior, accusing the former MP of violating laws protecting the dignity of the Amir.
