Major inspection blitz, Municipality cracks down on building violations

Illegal basement use and unauthorized apartments among violations in Hawalli; Sahel App used to alert violators as electronic enforcement expands

The Kuwait Municipality launched an intensive inspection campaign today targeting construction, renovation, and remodeling works in private, model, and investment housing areas.

The campaign focuses on ensuring that engineering offices and contractors comply with all building regulations, requirements, and safety standards.

Meshari Al-Turkait, head of the Municipality team in the Hawalli Governorate, emphasized that the campaign is designed to raise awareness of municipal laws and ensure strict enforcement.

“The municipality will not hesitate to take legal action against violators,” he warned, confirming that violators will be issued formal reports and referred for prosecution if necessary.

The campaign comes in response to repeated violations observed in recent days. Al-Turkait revealed that ten violations were recorded in the Hawalli area alone after multiple warnings went unheeded by property owners.

The offenses included deteriorating building facades, unauthorized ground-floor apartments, and the misuse of basements for unapproved purposes.

Notices were issued electronically through the Sahel government services application as part of a broader effort to digitize enforcement and streamline communication.

Al-Turkait concluded by affirming that inspection teams across all governorates remain committed to upholding the law and will continue their surprise inspection tours to curb unauthorized construction and ensure urban safety and integrity.
