Kuwait enters last phase of extreme summer heat on Aug 11

The Al-Ajari Scientific Center has announced that Kuwait is entering the final stage of the summer season with the arrival of the “Kalibin” (Al-Kaleeb) season on August 11. This period is regarded as the last phase of extreme heat before temperatures begin to moderate.
In a press release, the center explained that the Kalibin season lasts for 13 days and serves as a transitional period leading up to the arrival of Suhail, a star whose appearance traditionally signals the end of intense summer conditions in the Arabian Peninsula.
Although the Kalibin season is still marked by high temperatures, it is also characterized by a noticeable increase in humidity, which contributes to a slight drop in daytime heat. During this period, southerly and southeasterly winds often prevail, while the intense dry winds known as “Al-Sumum” (poisonous winds) begin to subside.
As the season progresses, the Earth’s interior gradually cools, paving the way for more moderate weather and lower temperatures, particularly by the end of the 13-day period.
The center added that the Kalibin stars are two celestial bodies located at the end of the Canis Major constellation, well-known to astronomers. Another notable sign of seasonal change is the gradual increase in night time compared to daytime, indicating the slow shift toward autumn.
