Kuwait Fire Force handled over 1,300 fire reports in first half of 2025

The Kuwait Fire Force (KFF) responded to 1,304 fire reports in both residential and non-residential areas across all six governorates during the first half of 2025, according to Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Gharib, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the KFF.

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) today, Al-Gharib said the Hawalli Governorate recorded the highest number of fire reports with 215 incidents. This was followed by Mubarak Al-Kabeer with 202, Ahmadi with 195, Farwaniya with 183, the Capital with 171, and Jahra with 147 cases.

In total, the Fire Force dealt with 1,648 fire incidents during the six-month period. Additionally, the department responded to 3,532 rescue operations and handled 2,538 good-faith reports. Al-Gharib said these figures demonstrate the scale of the department’s operations and highlight the high level of preparedness among firefighting teams throughout the country.

The Fire Force also handled 18 death cases during this period, mostly related to drowning or body recovery operations. Of these, 14 were managed directly by firefighting teams, while the remaining four were referred to other competent authorities.

Al-Gharib identified some of the leading causes of fires during the first half of the year. Electrical overloads were responsible for 118 incidents, while 169 fires were caused by children playing with heat sources or flammable materials. Another 159 incidents were attributed to deliberate or semi-deliberate actions.

He stressed that the Fire Department had implemented a comprehensive and proactive emergency response plan, allowing it to respond quickly to incidents and ensure the safety of lives and property. He praised the operational efficiency and readiness of firefighting teams, noting that they dealt with a wide range of reports—from home fires to industrial and commercial facility blazes, as well as road rescues and emergencies in various locations.

All responses, he said, were carried out in accordance with internationally recognized firefighting and rescue standards.

Al-Gharib underscored the importance of community cooperation in enhancing public safety. He urged citizens and residents to follow fire safety guidelines and to report emergencies without delay. “Safety is a collective responsibility,” he said.

He also warned of the increased risk of electrical short circuits, especially during the summer months, when the heavy use of appliances puts additional strain on power networks. He advised the public to regularly inspect their electrical systems, avoid using damaged wires, and not to overload power sockets. Negligence or tampering with electrical devices, he cautioned, could have severe consequences.
