As part of its ongoing initiative to modernize school curricula and reinforce national identity, Kuwait’s Ministry of Education has launched a comprehensive project to revise and develop social studies textbooks for elementary and intermediate school levels. This effort, in collaboration with the Curriculum Development Department, is being carried out by specialized teams following internationally recognized educational standards tailored to modern learning needs.
In a statement released Sunday, Mohammed Al-Otaibi, the acting general technical supervisor for social studies, said the development plan was formulated in coordination with the Curriculum Development Department. The approach reflects the Ministry’s educational philosophy and incorporates the latest international trends, including 21st-century skills and global performance benchmarks, reports Al-Rai daily.
Al-Otaibi noted that the teams involved in authoring the textbooks include a select group of experienced male and female supervisors and teachers, with participation from school administrators. Their work is guided by trusted research and academic sources.
The content development process focused on verifying information accuracy and designing educational activities that promote both understanding and practical application. He emphasized that the new materials will enhance students’ learning outcomes, strengthen national identity, and improve the overall quality of education.
Abeer Al-Anzi, technical supervisor for social studies in the Capital Education District, added that the middle school textbook development followed a clear executive plan. Tasks and responsibilities were distributed during a planning meeting with the technical director to ensure smooth coordination and progress.
She explained that the textbook is structured into integrated units designed to suit the developmental stage of middle school students. Each unit includes interactive classroom activities aimed at fostering critical thinking and aligning with the latest pedagogical advancements, while promoting national values and preserving Kuwaiti identity.
Mona Al-Hamad, another technical supervisor for social studies, highlighted that the new textbook is designed as a tool to increase students’ awareness and connect them more deeply with their community and environment.
She stressed that the curriculum includes real-world content and learning activities that support skill development, uphold Islamic values, and reinforce a sense of national belonging. The content is written in a way that engages students, stimulates analysis, and contributes to building well-rounded, thoughtful individuals.
This curriculum overhaul marks a significant step in the Ministry of Education’s broader strategy to transform education in Kuwait, aligning it with international standards while nurturing local culture and values.
