Voting begins for Egyptian expatriates in 2025 Senate elections

Voting for Egyptians living abroad in the 2025 Senate — upper chamber of the Egyptian Parliament — elections kicked off in Kuwait at 9 a.m. local time today. The electoral process began at the Egyptian Embassy in the Da’iya district, marking the first of two scheduled voting days for expatriates.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Osama Shaltout, who also heads the electoral committee in Kuwait, oversaw the launch of the voting alongside members of the Egyptian diplomatic and consular mission. The team ensured that all necessary facilities and services were in place to make voting smooth and accessible for the Egyptian community.
Ambassador Shaltout and embassy staff inaugurated the election process by casting their own ballots. He encouraged Egyptians residing in Kuwait to exercise their constitutional right to vote, emphasizing that the embassy had made all necessary preparations in coordination with Kuwaiti authorities to support and ease participation in this democratic process.
“The embassy has provided all means to ensure the comfort of voters and enable them to cast their votes with ease,” the ambassador said, expressing confidence in a strong turnout over the two voting days. He noted that the embassy had promoted awareness about the elections through its platforms and technical offices, encouraging Egyptians to choose candidates they believe are best suited to represent them in the Senate.
Before the official start of voting, members of the Egyptian community had already gathered outside the embassy, eager to take part in the elections, which run through Friday and Saturday (August 1-2, 2025).
To assist voters, the Egyptian Embassy in Kuwait has arranged free shuttle buses to transport them between the gathering point at Green Island and the embassy in Da’iya. The buses will operate throughout the voting days on a continuous loop, starting at 8:45 a.m. Kuwait time.
The National Elections Authority of Egypt had previously designated August 1 and 2 for overseas voting, while citizens inside Egypt are scheduled to vote on August 4 and 5.
