US-China trade talks ‘candid and constructive,’ focus on tariff suspension

Senior Chinese official Li Zhenggang said today that China and the United States held “in-depth, candid, and constructive” discussions during the latest round of economic and trade talks.

Li, who serves as China’s international trade representative and vice minister of commerce, made the remarks during a press conference following the bilateral meetings in the Swedish capital, according to Al-Rai daily.

He noted that both delegations engaged in sincere exchanges on key economic and trade issues of mutual concern.

Among the topics discussed was the continued suspension of the 24 percent tariffs imposed by the United States, along with China’s countermeasures. Both sides reportedly emphasized the importance of extending this suspension to maintain stability.

Li added that the two countries recognize the strategic importance of maintaining stable and healthy Sino-American economic ties and expressed a shared willingness to continue dialogue on pressing issues affecting global trade dynamics.
