Trump Administration poised to dismiss scientific basis for regulating greenhouse gases

The Trump administration is preparing to revoke the 2009 Endangerment Finding, a landmark EPA decision declaring greenhouse gas a threat to public health. Overturning it could dismantle the legal framework for regulating emissions in the U.S.
On June 30, the EPA submitted a proposal to the White House to repeal the Endangerment Finding, arguing that regulatory costs have been overstated and U.S. vehicle emissions are overstated contributors to global climate change, according to AFP.
Although the Trump administration hopes to rely on recent rulings that limit federal authority, legal scholars say overturning the 2007 Supreme Court precedent that enabled the finding would be difficult and time-consuming, likely dragging into the end of Trump’s term.
Despite potential legal changes, energy and manufacturing sectors are expected to stick with long-term clean energy plans, knowing future administrations may reinstate regulations aligned with climate science and global business trends.
