200 kilos of banned chewing tobacco seized; four suspects in police custody

Kuwaiti customs officers at the airport’s passenger terminal have intercepted and seized a total of 200 kilograms of banned chewing tobacco in two separate smuggling attempts over the past two days.
In the first incident, a Bangladeshi passenger was caught yesterday carrying 40 kilograms of the illegal substance. The following day, three additional passengers of the same nationality attempted to smuggle 159 kilograms, but their efforts were also foiled by customs officials.
Chewing tobacco is strictly prohibited from entering Kuwait, and the Airport Customs Department has taken prompt legal action, against the concerned persons and referred them and the contraband to the concerned authority for further action, reports Al-Rai daily.
The Ministry of Interior, in the meantime, has launched investigations into incident, to see if any other individuals are involved in the case.
These seizures come amid a broader national campaign targeting illegal substances, including a recent Ministry of Interior announcement regarding the arrest of 31 suspects with narcotics and 437 violations recorded in a security sweep in Mahboula.
