Kuwaiti women appointed to General Prosecution in historic first

Attorney-General transfers Kuwaiti Prosecutors in move to Kuwaitize judiciary

Attorney General Counselor Saad Al-Safran issued a decision on Thursday transferring several Kuwaiti prosecutors from partial and specialized prosecution offices to the General Prosecution Office, in a step aimed at Kuwaitizing the Public Prosecution and reinforcing it with qualified national talent.

In a statement, the Public Prosecution described the decision as part of its broader vision to build a strong national judicial workforce and empower capable Kuwaiti legal professionals, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Notably, the decision includes a first-of-its-kind precedent — the transfer of a number of highly qualified Kuwaiti women to the General Prosecution Office. This step was taken based on objective merit and affirms the trust and competence of Kuwaiti women in the criminal justice system.

The Public Prosecution highlighted that this marks a pivotal moment for women’s empowerment in judicial leadership, reflecting the country’s commitment to equal opportunity and gender equality in positions of legal authority.

The move is seen as a direct implementation of the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who has emphasized the importance of enhancing the presence of Kuwaitis in all sectors of the justice system, particularly through leadership roles for both men and women.

In a separate decision, Counselor Saad Al-Safran appointed Counselor Badr Al-Masoud, currently First Attorney General and Head of the Attorney General’s Technical Office, to assume the duties of Head of the General Prosecution.
