Kuwait moves to amend nationality law to protect national identity

In a significant move aimed at protecting Kuwait’s national identity and addressing growing concerns over fraudulent citizenship claims, the government is preparing to approve key amendments to the Kuwaiti Nationality Law.

According to informed sources, the changes — now under review by the Council of Ministers — are expected to be finalized soon, reinforcing efforts to combat forgery, manipulation, and unlawful acquisition of citizenship, reports Al-Qabas daily.

As part of these efforts, the Supreme Committee for Investigating Kuwaiti Citizenship continues its work around the clock, meticulously examining all citizenship files without exception.
The committee’s mandate includes uncovering any instances of fraudulent or forged citizenship documents.

According to the source, there are firm directives from senior leadership to arrest individuals who obtained Kuwaiti nationality through deception, and to ensure continued scrutiny under the direct supervision of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef.

In a related development, the source revealed that approximately 29,000 individuals have so far submitted grievances to the Cabinet’s Grievance Committee concerning decisions related to the withdrawal, revocation, or loss of Kuwaiti citizenship.

The committee, chaired by Counselor Ali Al-Dhubaibi, was established by Cabinet decision on March 11, and is tasked with receiving and evaluating complaints from affected individuals.

To facilitate this process, the committee operates 24/7 — including weekends and public holidays —and continues to accept grievances through an electronic portal. It also offers direct assistance to individuals who encounter difficulties with online submissions, ensuring ease of access and transparency in addressing all complaints.

The government’s focus on nationality issues comes amid growing concerns about maintaining the country’s demographic and legal integrity.

The forthcoming amendments, alongside the sustained efforts of investigative and grievance committees, are seen as a firm step toward reinforcing citizenship laws and ensuring justice for all.
