Elon Musk announces formation of ‘America Party’ following online poll

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk announced Saturday the creation of a new political party, the “America Party,” claiming it will help restore Americans’ freedom and serve as a disruptive force in U.S. politics.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk wrote on his social media platform, X, referencing the results of a poll he posted a day earlier asking followers if they supported forming the party, according to news reports.

Musk, currently the world’s richest man, said the America Party could strategically focus on “just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts” — a narrow but potentially powerful target. “Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people,” he explained.

While Musk did not specify where or how the party would be formally registered, as of Saturday it did not appear in the records of the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Responding to a user on X, Musk also said the America Party would caucus independently and engage in legislative talks with both Republicans and Democrats.

The announcement marks a significant new step in Musk’s evolving political involvement and has already sparked widespread attention across social media and political circles.
