U.S. President Donald Trump called on Iran-backed Hamas militants today to accept what he described as a “final proposal” for a 60-day ceasefire with Israel in Gaza. The proposal is set to be delivered by mediators from Qatar and Egypt.
In a social media post, Trump stated that his representatives held a “long and productive” meeting with Israeli officials to discuss the situation in Gaza, according to Reuters.
While he did not name the participants, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance had been scheduled to meet with Ron Dermer, a senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The ceasefire effort comes amid ongoing regional tensions and continued efforts by U.S. and international mediators to de-escalate the conflict in Gaza.
