CAPT approves MEW request to replace aging power stations, boost power grid efficiency

In an effort to enhance the performance of Kuwait’s electrical grid, especially during peak consumption periods, the Central Agency for Public Tenders has approved the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy’s request to issue three tenders for the supply and replacement of aging secondary transformer stations across the country’s six governorates.
This initiative is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to modernize the electrical infrastructure, improve network efficiency, and ensure a stable and high-quality power supply, reports Al-Jarida daily.
The targeted stations, rated at 0.433/11 kV, have exceeded their operational lifespan and will be replaced with advanced models that incorporate modern protection and control systems aligned with international safety and reliability standards.
According to ministry sources, the approved tenders will cover the complete supply, installation, and commissioning of the new transformer stations. Once the tendering process concludes and contracts are signed with successful bidders, the implementation phase will begin in line with set project timelines.
Officials emphasized that these upgrades are crucial to managing increasing electrical loads, particularly during the summer months, and will ensure the network’s capacity to support future urban expansion and rising energy demand in various regions.
The modernization project is also seen as a critical component of the national plan to expand and reinforce the country’s electricity grid, ensuring sustainability and uninterrupted power services for citizens and businesses alike.
