Court of Cassation upholds death penalty for killer of Ahmed Al-Jalal

The Court of Cassation has upheld the verdicts of the Appeal and Criminal courts and sentenced the killer of Ahmed Al-Jalal to death after considering evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defense, including expert testimony from mental health professionals that the defendant was mentally competent at the time of the crime and had confessed in court to committing the murder.
The case, which shocked the public, began when the Public Prosecution launched an investigation into the fatal stabbing of Ahmed Al-Jalal, brother of former MP Mutab Al-Jalal, during a dispute in the Hadiya area. The accused had turned himself in to authorities and admitted to the killing.
After receiving the medical report confirming the accused’s legal and mental responsibility, Lawyer Hussein Al-Asfour called for the maximum penalty to be imposed.
The Cassation Court agreed, confirming that the death sentence was justified based on the defendant’s confession and the findings of the psychiatric evaluation.
This final ruling by the Court of Cassation brings the legal proceedings in the high-profile murder case to a close.
