Kuwait evacuates 334 citizens from Iran in first airlift operation

In a demonstration of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad, the State of Kuwait successfully carried out the first airlift operation to evacuate nationals stranded in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The evacuation flight, operated by Kuwait Airways, arrived Saturday morning at Terminal 4 (T4) of Kuwait International Airport, carrying 334 male and female citizens safely home.
The operation followed sustained diplomatic and logistical efforts by Kuwait’s political and governmental leadership to navigate and overcome the complex challenges associated with the evacuation. Many of the stranded citizens were located in the city of Mashhad. Due to the security and logistical situation, they were first transported by bus across the border to neighboring Turkmenistan, from where they boarded the evacuation flight back to Kuwait. The entire journey spanned approximately 25 hours.
Dozens of relieved family members awaited the returnees at T4, welcoming their loved ones with tears, prayers, and gratitude. Upon arrival, the evacuees praised the Kuwaiti leadership and government for their swift response and dedication to their citizens’ well-being, regardless of the circumstances.
Speaking to Al-Rai, several of the returnees expressed their deep appreciation, stating, “May God bless the government. It has never hesitated—and never will—to provide aid and protection to its people.”
They also acknowledged the critical role played by Kuwaiti diplomatic staff throughout the evacuation process, ensuring the safe passage of citizens and maintaining constant communication until their secure return.
This evacuation underscores the high priority the Kuwaiti leadership places on the safety and dignity of its people, reaffirming that the state remains ready to act decisively in times of crisis to protect its citizens, wherever they may be.
