Minister Al-Mutairi urges official spokespersons to combat rumors

Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi reaffirmed the vital role played by official spokespersons in government agencies and institutions in promoting transparency and protecting society from misinformation.

Speaking during a meeting with spokespersons of state institutions, Al-Mutairi praised their professionalism and commitment to delivering accurate and responsible information to the public, highlighting their contributions to strengthening institutional communication and reinforcing public trust in government channels.

He emphasized that spokespersons serve as the primary link between state institutions and the public, and must ensure the swift and direct delivery of reliable information to prevent the spread of rumors, especially during crises.

Given the fast-paced developments unfolding in the region, the Minister underscored the need for a high level of preparedness and a proactive media response that demonstrates institutional awareness and reassures public opinion.

Al-Mutairi called for continued development of media communication strategies; closer coordination with the Ministry of Information, the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), and the Government Communication Center.

This is in addition to enhanced media readiness during emergencies and crises to solidify public confidence in official sources as the authoritative source of information.

He further affirmed the Ministry’s support for spokespersons by providing them with necessary tools and training, expressing confidence in the capabilities of Kuwait’s national cadres to manage information effectively under all circumstances.

During the meeting, Suleiman Al-Gharib, advisor at the Government Communication Center, presented a framework titled “Comprehensive Media Readiness” — a professional guide outlining the role of official spokespersons and strategies for managing media crises. He reviewed key steps and protocols to minimize damage and maintain institutional credibility during crises, stressing the spokesperson’s essential role in clear, confident, and strategic communication.
