Air India Hong Kong-Delhi flight returns mid-air due to suspected technical issue

An Air India flight from Hong Kong to Delhi, AI315, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was forced to return mid-flight today (Monday) after the pilot detected a suspected technical snag. The aircraft landed safely back in Hong Kong, airline sources confirmed.

The incident occurred shortly after departure, prompting the pilot to follow standard safety procedures and make the precautionary decision to turn the aircraft around, according to Indian news agencies.

This development comes just days after a tragic crash involving another Air India Dreamliner. Flight AI171, enroute from Ahmedabad to London, went down near Ahmedabad on June 12, claiming the lives of all 241 passengers and 29 crew members on board—a total of 270 fatalities.

On Sunday, investigators recovered the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) from the AI171 crash site. The CVR, part of the aircraft’s black box, is expected to provide vital information to determine the cause of the crash.

Further details regarding the AI315 technical issue and passenger arrangements are still awaited.
