Kuwait mourns the death of Asad Taqi
. . . Former Vice President of Kuwaiti and Asian Football Federations

Kuwait mourns the passing of Asad Taqi, a prominent figure in national and Asian football, who dedicated nearly four decades of his life to advancing the sport both locally and internationally.
Taqi began his journey in sports as a young player for Al-Ahmadi Club, affiliated with Kuwait Oil Company. He later joined the founding team of Al-Fahaheel Club in 1964 before moving to Al-Shabab Club, where he eventually retired from playing and transitioned into sports administration.
He went on to serve as a board member of Al-Shabab Club, a senior official in the Kuwait Football Association, and ultimately Vice President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). He was also elected Vice President of the Public Authority for Sports, playing an instrumental role in shaping Kuwait’s athletic policies.
Taqi was especially influential during the aftermath of the Iraqi invasion in the 1990s, helping ensure that Kuwaiti teams were not drawn against Iraqi teams in AFC competitions — a move widely respected at the time.
His legacy reflects decades of dedication to Kuwaiti sports and football diplomacy.
