Ghalia Al-Enezi to represent Kuwait in the 9th Arab Reading Challenge in Dubai

The Ministry of Education has announced that student Ghalia Al-Enezi, from the Capital Educational District, will represent Kuwait in the ninth edition of the Arab Reading Challenge, part of the initiatives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai.

Al-Enezi was selected from among 213,000 students who took part in the nationwide competition, emerging as the top winner.

The announcement came during a special ceremony held by the Ministry to honor 85 outstanding students who qualified for the national finals. The event celebrated the top ten winners, with Al-Enezi earning first place for her exceptional performance.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Development and Activities Mariam Al-Enezi, UAE Embassy Advisor Hamad Al-Mansoori, and Laila Akhzaimi, Assistant Project Manager at the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives Foundation.

Speaking on behalf of Minister of Education Jalal Al-Tabtabaei, Mariam Al-Enezi said, “It gives me great pleasure to be here today to celebrate the champions of the Arab Reading Challenge and convey the Minister’s heartfelt congratulations. This initiative revives our Arab cultural heritage and kindles the flame of knowledge in our youth. Today, we honor young heroes who have raised the banner of learning despite all challenges.”

Laila Akhzaimi highlighted the remarkable growth in participation from Kuwait. While around 15,000 students took part in the first edition, the current edition saw participation soar to 213,000 students. She also praised the efforts of 1,515 supervisors who guided students from 835 schools across all educational districts, including public, religious, private, and special education.

As part of the celebrations, students were honored across ten educational districts, in addition to representatives from religious, private, and special education streams.

The top ten winners announced, in ascending order, were — Ghalia Al-Enezi (Capital District) – First Place; Ruqayya Shahab (Hawalli); Hamoud Al-Adwani (Capital); Adnan Al-Atiqi (Capital); Fatima Ali and Shurooq Mohammed (Private Education); Sarah Al-Mutairi (Religious Education – Farwaniya); Youssef Sharif (Hawalli); Hour Al-Khalidi (Capital) and Hiba Allah Amin (Religious Education – Farwaniya).

The Arab Reading Challenge is one of the largest literacy initiatives globally, aiming to foster a culture of reading among school students from grades 1 through 12. It currently includes 32 million students from 132,000 schools across 50 countries.

Kuwait’s growing presence in this challenge reflects its commitment to cultivating knowledge and literacy among its youth on a regional and global stage.
