Kuwait livestock market sees surge in activity for Eid al-Adha

As Eid al-Adha approaches, the livestock market in Kuwait is experiencing a surge in activity from both citizens and residents seeking to fulfill the ritual of sacrifice.

Early signs point to affordable and competitive prices, with differences based on animal type and origin, whether local or imported, reports Al-Rai daily.

Sheep trader Suleiman Al-Musafir expressed confidence in this year’s market dynamics, saying, “Prices this year are lower than in past seasons due to the large availability of sheep. Kuwait is blessed, thank God, with an abundant supply of livestock.”

He emphasized that prices are reasonable compared to previous years, thanks partly to increased supply and the proactive regulation of the market by official authorities, which has helped maintain price stability and fairness.

Another trader, Bu Musaed, confirmed that prices are currently within the reach of most people, noting that small differences in cost are typically due to legal and religious requirements — such as the animal’s age and free of defects.

He pointed out that there is a wide variety of options available to suit different budgets, ranging from Australian, Somali, and Shefali sheep to the more prized local Naimi breed.

Bu Musaed also added that while prices may remain elevated until Eid, they are expected to drop afterward due to a decline in demand — particularly as many citizens travel during the summer holidays and major events come to a pause.

However, this year’s sheep market offers plentiful choices at moderate prices, making it easier for families to observe the sacred Eid ritual in a way that fits their means.
