Al-Batin season kicks off tomorrow paving way for scorching summer heat

As the Pleiades star rises, temperatures across Kuwait and neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are expected to climb significantly

The Al-Ajari Scientific Center has announced that the Al-Batin season will begin tomorrow, Sunday, marking the final phase of the Al-Kanna period.

This seasonal phase will extend for 13 days and is notable for its distinct climatic features, including shortened shadows on certain days and the sun’s rays being nearly perpendicular to the Earth’s surface, reports Al-Rai daily.

In a press release, the Center explained that the Al-Batin season is associated with the rising of the Al-Batin star, which is accompanied by strong northwesterly winds. These winds contribute to a noticeable rise in daytime temperatures — from sunrise to sunset — and result in increased dust and airborne particles, reducing visibility and affecting outdoor conditions.

During this period, daylight time will exceed 13 hours and 47 minutes, with sunset occurring later in the evening at approximately 6:38 pm. As a result, nighttime hours will become noticeably shorter.

The Center also highlighted that the Thuraya (Pleiades) season will commence on June 7, 2025, signaling what is traditionally considered the beginning of the true summer in the region. This shift marks a transition to drier atmospheric conditions and a gradual yet consistent rise in temperatures over the following two weeks.

As the Pleiades star rises, temperatures across Kuwait and neighboring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are expected to climb significantly, ushering in the peak of the summer season.
