Unstable weather grips Kuwait: winds, dust storms, and rain possible through month-end

The Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali, confirmed on Monday that Kuwait experienced strong wind activity throughout the day, with gusts exceeding 50 kilometers per hour.

These rapid wind surges caused a sudden drop in horizontal visibility, particularly across desert and open areas.

In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Ali explained that the weather disturbances were caused by the influence of a surface low-pressure system.

This system triggered light to moderate southeasterly and southerly winds, which became active in certain regions. However, he noted that wind speeds are expected to ease slightly in the coming hours, dropping to around 40 kilometers per hour.

Al-Ali added that these southerly winds are likely to persist into the night, accompanied by partly cloudy skies. There is also a possibility of scattered light rainfall and dust storms forming in the late-night hours.

He pointed out that these weather patterns are typical of the “Sarayat” season—a transitional period marked by sudden and sometimes severe atmospheric changes. This phase, he said, may continue through the end of the month.

Al-Ali urged the public to stay updated by following the Meteorology Department’s official website, mobile app, and social media platforms for real-time weather updates and safety guidance.
