Prosecution sounds alarm on juvenile traffic violations: 19,815 cases in a decade

As part of its commitment to safeguarding society and upholding the rule of law, the Public Prosecution held a coordination meeting to address the growing number of traffic violations committed by juveniles.
The meeting, led by Director of the Juvenile Prosecution Nouf Al-Saeed, brought together Brigadier General Khaled Al-Adwani from the General Traffic Department, Colonel Mohammed Al-Wahib from the Juvenile Protection Department, and Deputy Director Abdullah Al-Saqr, to discuss key updates in Decree-Law No. 5 of 2025, which amends certain provisions of the Traffic Law No. 67 of 1976, according to Al-Jarida daily.
In a statement, the Public Prosecution emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the penalties outlined in the amended law, which will come into effect on April 22, 2025, urging citizens and residents to comply with its provisions.
Field data revealed a concerning number of violations by minors, with 19,815 juvenile traffic cases recorded between 2014 and 2024, and a conviction rate of 99.7% in such cases from 2010 to 2025.
The Public Prosecution issued a message to minors, warning that driving without a license endangers lives, and reminded parents that allowing unlicensed children to drive could result in legal consequences. Authorities called on families and relevant institutions to help foster a culture of traffic responsibility and awareness among youth.
