‘Philosophy and the Child’ symposium by National Society for Children’s Rights

Dr. Suhaim Al-Furaih, President of the National Society for Children’s Rights, stated that the society was founded to raise awareness about children’s rights by organizing seminars, workshops, and training sessions for parents and teachers on the importance of child protection.
Importantly, Dr. Al-Furaih made these remarks during the “Philosophy and the Child” symposium organized by the National Society for Children’s Rights, held at the Kuwait International Law School that was attended by a group of professors and students.
Dr. Al-Furaih emphasized that awareness programs alone are not enough, highlighting the need for laws that ensure all members of society, including parents, uphold children’s rights. She also noted that a woman’s role in society begins with motherhood, inspiring her to contribute meaningfully through the association.
Dr. Haya Al-Shammari, Associate Professor in the Department of Arabic Language, opened the symposium by introducing the National Society for Children’s Rights and its mission. She highlighted the Society’s role in protecting children’s rights and raising community awareness of children’s issues.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Shammari then discussed the connection between philosophy and children, emphasizing that philosophers were not merely contemplative thinkers but also held positions and opinions on vital human issues such as education and upbringing.
Dr. Ladha Al-Otaibi delivered a lecture highlighting the importance of fostering children’s understanding and awareness of the rapidly changing world. She emphasized the need to equip children with proper thinking skills to shield them from the challenges of modern contradictions that could impact their freedom and future.
The lecture concluded with an engaging discussion, where attendees raised various academic and social questions, which the speakers addressed openly. Dr. Haya Al-Shammari delivered a closing thank-you speech, followed by a group photo to mark the event.
