Swiss Embassy and UN-Habitat co-host discussion on sustainable water use in Kuwait

The Swiss Embassy in Kuwait, in partnership with UN-Habitat, hosted a successful interactive discussion on sustainable water use at the Swiss Embassy residence on 23rd February.

The event gathered key stakeholders from various sectors to tackle critical challenges and explore solutions for sustainable water management.

The session began with opening remarks from H.E. Tiziano Balmelli, Ambassador of Switzerland to Kuwait, who underscored Switzerland’s dedication to sustainability and responsible water use.

Dr. Ameera Al-Hassan, Head of Mission of UN-Habitat Kuwait and the GCC, followed with an address emphasizing the vital role of sustainable water management in advancing regional development goals.

To provide an international perspective, H.E. Patricia Danzi, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), shared valuable insights into Switzerland’s global initiatives and expertise in sustainable water practices.

The event brought together a distinguished group of guests, including representatives from academia, government bodies, the private sector, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), diplomats, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Notable attendees included H.E. Tuba Nur Sönmez, Ambassador of Türkiye to Kuwait, and Ms. Bahia Jaffar from Kuwait Dairy Company (KDD).

The discussions will center on the importance of integrated water resource management, innovative technologies, and cross-sector collaboration.

The interactive format of the event will offer a platform for stakeholders to exchange perspectives, foster partnerships, and explore practical solutions tailored to the region’s water sustainability challenges. This platform will continue its efforts in the future, supporting ongoing dialogue and action on sustainable water management.
