Sonam Lhosar and Grand Cultural Program wrap up in Kuwait

Sonam Lhosar is the New Year celebration of the Tamang community, observed annually on the first day of the waxing moon in the month of Magh. This festival marks the farewell to the old year and the welcoming of a new one.

Local artists performed traditional Tamang Selo, Damphu, and Mhendo Maya dances, along with other group cultural performances. The Nepal TamangGhedung Kuwait Cultural Family entertained the audience with vibrant performances, showcasing authentic Tamang attire and heritage.

The Nepal Tamang Ghedung Kuwait successfully hosted the Manjushree Samvat 2861 Dhul Lho Sa Phukri (Year of the Snake) Sonam Lhosar and Grand Cultural Program at Aspire Indian School in Kuwait on Tuesday.

Sonam Lhosar is the New Year celebration of the Tamangcommunity, observed annually on the first day of the waxing moon in the month of Magh. This festival marks the farewell to the old year and the welcoming of a new one.

The event commenced with the chanting of Om Mane Peme Hung and Buddhist prayers conducted by Lama Gurus, followed by traditional rituals and worship ceremonies.

Grand attendance and honorable guests

The program was chaired by Pema Lama, President of Nepal Tamang Ghedung Kuwait, with H. E. GhanashyamLamsal, the Ambassador of Nepal to Kuwait, attending as the chief guest.

Other distinguished guests included Ranadhoj Lama, President of NRNA NCC Kuwait; Ekaraj Malla, President of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists Kuwait; and Raju Gurung, General Secretary of the Indigenous Federation of Kuwait. Representatives from Al Mulla Exchange, Jazeera Airways, and social worker RajendraTamang were also among the special guests.

Additionally, the event was attended by leaders of various Nepalese organizations active in Kuwait, representatives of political parties’ sister organizations, journalists, intellectuals, and social workers. The program was jointly hosted by advisory member Keshar Ghalan Tamang, General Secretary Yug Lama, and artist Himal Lama.

The event formally began with a welcome speech by Program Coordinator Dil Kumar Pakhrin, followed by the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and the Nepali national anthem.

Cultural performances welcome the New Year

Local artists performed traditional Tamang Selo, Damphu, and Mhendo Maya dances, along with other group cultural performances. The Nepal Tamang GhedungKuwait Cultural Family entertained the audience with vibrant performances, showcasing authentic Tamang attire and heritage.

Adding to the excitement, renowned Nepali singer Suresh Lama and singer Sumina Lo Tamang performed over a dozen of their popular songs. Their energetic and melodious performances captivated the audience and elevated the festive spirit of the event.

Recognition and conclusion

The program continued with an enthusiastic audience filling the hall until the end. Distinguished individuals and invited artists were honored with traditional shawls and appreciation certificates for their contributions.

In his concluding remarks, President Pema Lama expressed gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers, and media representatives who contributed directly and indirectly to the success of the event. He highlighted how SonamLhosar fosters unity within the Nepali community while preserving cultural traditions and celebrating the TamangNew Year.
