• The Ministry of Education confirmed that the measures to reduce school bag weight were implemented within the approved budget, ensuring a balance between quality education and state financial resources.
The Ministry of Education has announced measures to reduce the weight of school bags by up to fifty percent following directives from Minister of Education Sayed Jalal Al-Tabtabaei. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard students’ health and ensure a comfortable, safe learning environment, according to Al Qabas newspaper.
The Ministry of Education stated that the relevant sectors, including educational research, curricula, general education, and finance, have developed a series of practical solutions to balance educational efficiency and learner safety. One of the key solutions is printing textbooks for the second semester of 2024-2025 with special specifications aimed at reducing the weight of school bags.
The ministry noted that the new measures involve dividing the second-semester textbooks into two parts, in alignment with the study plans approved by the general technical directive for study materials across all stages. These amendments were made without compromising the quality of printing or educational content, ensuring the continued effective delivery of curricula.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that all steps taken to reduce the weight of school bags were implemented without incurring any additional financial costs, adhering to the approved financial budget for textbook printing, in a bid to strike a balance between providing quality education and maintaining state financial resources.
The ministry stressed that this initiative reflects its strong commitment to preserving the physical health of learners and enhancing their safety from the potential effects of carrying weights that exceed the recommended capacity for different age groups in schools. It emphasized that this step aims to provide an educational environment that meets learners’ needs and supports their educational and health development.
