New scandal unveils 70 Syrians granted citizenship fraudulently through dependency

As the competent authorities continue to review and audit citizenship files, and take legal measures in this regard, Al-Rai learned that the citizenship investigations have learnt about a new forgery case, which includes about 70 people holding Kuwaiti citizenship.

Among these comprise 5 people of Syrian nationality, who were added to the files of 3 citizens many years ago, some of which date back before the invasion.

Informed sources revealed to Al-Rai that information reached the ‘Nationality Investigations Department’ about suspicions surrounding the nationality files of 5 people.

Hence, the available information was examined and followed up, wherein the investigations led to the fact that 5 people, including a woman holding Syrian nationality, were added to the files of 3 Kuwaiti citizens.

The sources indicated that the search and investigation operations that continued for months revealed that the 3 citizens are deceased. It also came to light that the Syrian forgers have children and grandchildren, who obtained Kuwaiti citizenship by extension, and that their number has now reached to about 70.

It was also explained by the sources that the investigations revealed complications surrounding the case, in which 5 people are accused.

Initially, 4 siblings, including a woman, were investigated. It turned out that they were Syrians and were falsely entered into the nationality file of a citizen, in exchange for money. It was discovered that they had a fifth brother, who was hiding, and was forged into the nationality file of another citizen.

Informing further, the sources indicated that another surprise in this case was revealed by the investigations, that the Syrian woman married one of her fellow citizen, and had three children through him. Hence, she was also entered into the nationality file of a Kuwaiti citizen fraudulently, and they obtained Kuwaiti citizenship.

The sources reported that according to the investigations, the forgery in the case occurred in two files before the Iraqi invasion, and the third after it, while it was found that the Kuwaiti citizens who had citizenship files were deceased.

Further indicating that the five people have children and some of them now have grandchildren, which may raise their number to about 70 people, who hold Kuwaiti citizenship without any right.

Stating further, the source mentioned that the investigations and inquiries were referred by the Nationality Investigations Department, to the competent authorities to complete the necessary legal procedures in this case.
