Little Harvard Preschool recently launched “The Buckle-Up Campaign,” an initiative designed to encourage students to prioritize their safety by wearing seatbelts in the car. This campaign aims to teach children the importance of seatbelt use from a young age. As parents and teachers, our top priority is keeping our children safe.
One of the easiest ways to ensure children’s safety is by making sure they are buckled up every time they get in the car. It’s essential to establish these good habits early, especially with young children like preschoolers. Children learn by watching us, so it’s crucial that we model the right behaviors, such as buckling up.
You can make it fun by having a little race to see who can buckle up first. Plus, explaining why seatbelts are important and how they keep everyone safe can go a long way. Consider using a reward system—every time your child buckles up, they earn a small treat. This helps them make wearing a seatbelt a habit.

Keeping our children securely buckled in the car is one of the best ways to protect them in the event of an accident. It’s also important to buckle them in correctly. The seatbelt should fit snugly across their thighs and shoulders, not their stomachs or necks. The lap belt should sit low across the hips, and the shoulder belt should rest across the chest and shoulder without touching the neck. Never allow them to tuck the shoulder belt behind their back or under their arm. Encourage them to sit up straight and avoid slouching.
Whether you’re heading to the store or embarking on a fun family trip, always remember to buckle your child in securely. By teaching and practicing seatbelt safety together, we can help our kids grow up safe and sound. Let’s make safety a fun and lasting habit!
